You don't need to travel far to taste this delicious Filipino Food! |
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS FOR TUPIG FILLING?
First, let's prepare the filling!
In a bowl... Put 4 cups of glutinous rice 1 cup brown or white sugar 1 cup fresh or packaged coconut milk (kakang gata) 1 cup coconut strips (feel free to add more) 2 tablespoons butter or margarine Mix all of the ingredients! This mixture can fill 25 - 30 banana leaves! |
HOW TO PREPARE THE LEAVES?
We will use banana leaves to wrap our glutinous rice mixture. This step might get confusing so if you prefer an easy to follow video tutorial, I have already made one for you! |
Cut your banana leaves into rectangles that are about 6" x 10". No need to be precise with the measurement. |
Heat up each piece over a stovetop or grill. Trim the rough edges and wipe them clean! |
Spread butter or margarine in the middle of the banana leaves so they don't stick together when you cook them. |
Place 1/8 cup mixture over the same spot. |
Place 1/8 cup mixture over the same spot. |
|
Wrap it by rolling and then folding the edges to prevent the filling from dripping. Repeat the process until mixture is all done. |
HOW TO COOK TUPIG?
The traditional tupig are cooked over charcoal grill. If you don't have a charcoal grill... No worries! You can cook these on a frying pan or any grill! I will be using my budget indoor electric grill because it's very convenient. While cooking, turn them frequently until the banana leaves are charred on both sides! |
