KIKIAM RECIPE USING SARDINES
Kikiam is adopted from the Chinese Ngo Hiang and it can contain various meats, vegetables and other ingredients.
Frozen kikiam from your usual grocery store can be bland.
So, let me share with you my homemade version of kikiam!
It's really easy to make and this recipe is tasty and very affordable compared to store bought!
Let’s make our very own Filipino style kikiam!
If you prefer a video tutorial, I have one made just for you! Read along so we can get started! |
In a large bowl… Put 1 can sardines 1 egg 1 tbsp sugar 1 tbsp onion 1 tbsp garlic 1 tsp pepper 1 tsp salt 1 tbsp oyster sauce 1 cup cornstarch 1 cup flour 1 tbsp baking soda 1 tbsp oil |
Mix all of the ingredients until you get a paste-like mixture. If it’s too dry and hard you can add 1 - 2 tablespoons of water. |
You can freeze some of them and steam or fry them anytime you want.
Now take 1 tsp of the mixture and roll it in your palm. Repeat until the mixture is all done! You can make about 50 pieces of kikiam from this mixture! |
LET'S COOK!
You can steam or deep fry. I'm going to fry them over low to medium heat. Fry each side for about 3 - 4 minutes or until they’re golden brown. |

I'm using a non-stick pan so I'm just "shallow frying" as it is not the best choice for deep frying. |
AND THAT’S IT! This goes great with my sweet and sour sauce recipe that I will share with you on my next post! |
